Rental Policies

Drop your Suitcase and Play!

Each home is fully furnished and equipped with cookware, dinnerware, and kitchen linens. Beds have mattress pads, sheets, pillows and pillow cases, blankets and bed spreads or comforters. Also included are towels, soap and a starter supply of paper products. All rates are quoted in Canadian dollars. Check-in time is 3:00 PM. Check out time is 10:00 AM. - unless otherwise agreed. The Cottage Connection in Nova Scotia's sole business is the renting of vacation properties in Nova Scotia. We have a contractual relationship and serve as representatives for our property owners. We treat all parties (owners and guests) honestly, fairly and in good faith.

Reservation Deposit:

A reservation deposit of $500 + $55 for the Security Deposit Waiver Fee is required to make the reservation.

Final Payment:

The final payment of the remaining rental fee is due 90 days prior to your arrival. Upon final payment we will e-mail you a confirmation and detailed directions to your property and where the key location is on site. Your arrival to the property is at your convenience after 3PM. Upon departure by 10AM, we request that you return the key to the same location.

Last Minute Rentals:

Reservations made within 90 days of arrival require the full payment.

Method of Payment:

Payments may be made by Visa, MasterCard, money transfer or Canadian cheque.

Security Deposit Waiver Fee:

We require a $55 non-refundable Security Deposit Waiver fee for all reservations in lieu of charging you an additional security deposit fee of $500. to the property rental rate. This privilege is offered to you as our way of saying thank you for your business. The waiver covers all minor accidental damage or breakage up to $500. Coverage does not cover extraordinary cleaning charges, damage resulting from negligence or willful or wanton conduct or damage by a pet (in those properties that allow pets). Guests must notify the Cottage Connection in Nova Scotia Ltd. at once of any damage during occupancy and submit a written report or the Damage Waiver is void. For reservations of which the rental amount is over $2500 weekly, an additional refundable security deposit may be required.

Lodging Tax:

Most of our properties are not required to charge the 15% HST tax, which is a direct savings to you.

Vacation Rental Insurance:

The Cottage Connection offers optional vacation rental cancellation insurance through Travel Guard Canada, which is highly recommended. Smoking Policy:

Smoking is NOT allowed in the homes.


There is a $25 fee per key, for lost or missing keys.


Cancellation Policy:

The Guest acknowledges that because of the short rental season in Nova Scotia, they are buying the time available in the property and they own that time slot. In the event the Guest cancels their reservation before 90 days prior to occupancy and after a deposit has been made, $250 shall be forfeited from the $500 Reservation Deposit. More than 30 days, but less than 90 days before the check-in date, 75% of the total rental fee is forfeited, 30 days or less before the check-in date, 100% of the total rental fee is forfeited, unless the property can be rented by the Cottage Connection in Nova Scotia Ltd. on the same or better terms and conditions. The Guest agrees to pay the total rental as shown above on this Rental Agreement by or before the due dates. In the event of late payment, or failure to pay, the Cottage Connection in Nova Scotia Ltd. has the right to levy the cancellation charges provided for by this agreement against any money that the Guest has paid in advance and cancel the reservation.

Privacy Policy:

Cottage Connection in Nova Scotia Ltd. respects the privacy of all of all the visitors to this web site and is committed to protecting such privacy in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

In the course of providing our vacation rental services, we may collect Personal Information about you. "Personal Information" is personally identifiable information, such as your name, address, email address, and phone number. Personal Information is collected by us when you choose to provide it to us for the purpose of arranging your vacation rental.

We will not sell or rent your Personal Information to anyone.

We will only disclose your Personal Information to third parties:

Where you have specifically given us your consent to disclose your Personal Information for a designated purpose; Who are acting on our behalf as our agents, suppliers or service providers, solely to enable us to provide you with the services required.

Pet Policy:

While many of our properties adhere to a strict "No Pets" policy, a select number of our cottages welcome dogs and are advertised as Pet Friendly. This will be specifically noted on each the property information page and will be detailed within your confirmation. Any guest found with a pet in a property that is not pet friendly without prior approval will be required to vacate the premises without refund. This is strictly enforced.

Pet Friendly Properties:

For your own comfort and for the comfort and safety of our homeowners and other guests, there are certain restrictions that must apply to Pet Friendly Properties:

Size, Age, Number of Pets:

  • The Cottage Connection reserves the right to ask for information such as age, size and breed of your dog prior to approval. Multiple pets will be considered on a case basis. Visiting pets are not permitted.
  • Cats will be considered on a request basis only and property owner approval will be required.

Non-Refundable Pet Fee:

  • A $100.00 non-refundable Pet Fee will apply to each reservation that includes a dog (or cat as approved).
    (This fee does not cover damage to the property or grounds resulting from a dog, including but not limited to: chewing, scratching, digging and unreported housetraining accidents.)

All local laws and regulations must be followed, and may vary depending on the location of your property.

General Pet Rules::
Guests with dogs are asked to please respect the comfort and safety of other guests, both during and after your stay. For this reason, we ask that you please follow these guidelines during your time with us:

  • Please clean up after your dog, both in public areas and in the yard of your rental property.
  • Please do not allow your dog to bark excessively or to roam onto neighboring properties. Many of our cottages are located near residential neighborhoods, and we must respect the comfort and privacy of those residents. Complaints may lead to eviction without refund. This will be at the sole discretion of The Cottage Connection.
  • Please do not allow dogs on furniture or beds. It is also helpful to bring something (bed, blanket, etc.) on which you know your pet will be comfortable sleeping. Just because you allow your pets on your furniture and beds at your home does not mean it is allowed in our rental properties. Extra cleaning fees will be charged for furniture, blankets, comforters, etc. that have pet hair left behind. This may include professional steam cleaning; usually resulting in charges above $200.
  • Please do not leave your dog unattended for long periods of time. A crate is ideal for those situations in which you must leave. You are responsible for any damages your pet causes.
  • Please do your best to clean and dry your dog after a walk; this will help to ensure you will leave the property in good condition without being charged an extra cleaning fee.
  • Please do not allow dogs in swimming pools or hot tubs (if applicable).
  • Please ensure that any medications and immunizations for your pet are up-to-date, especially flea and tick treatment. Nova Scotia is prone to ticks so this is to protect your pet as much as the property.
